BURNING ISSUES, Allan Wright, 1999

A Belfast fire officer’s memoirs of the City firefighters’ role and experiences during the ‘Troubles 1968-88. How they not only had to defend their City but also themselves from fire, bomb, bullet, street violence and politics, in all of its various forms.

It is also a social, political statement which is a reflection of the futility of intolerance and violence which has caused the suffering borne by the Northern Ireland people for some thirty years and has been used to further political aims within a supposedly democratic society.

It is written from a hitherto untold perspective – as seen through the eyes of a then serving fire officer – one of the non politically aligned silent majority.
