Mack Model C Fire Trucks 1957-1967 Photo Archive, Harvey Eckart, 2000
The Mack C series is regarded as one of the best looking cab forward designs ever made, and it became an instant success with both large and small fire departments everywhere.
The C Series of fire trucks was Mack's first entry into the post World War II cab forward type fire vehicle market.
One of the first telescoping platform designs was introduced on the C series Mack, and became the predominant aerial device used by the New York City Fire Department for over thirty years.
The C Model Mack is currently both in active fire service and a sought after collector truck. Many examples have been meticulously restored and maintained by enthusiasts and collectors.
About the Author: As a youngster in his hometown of Berwick, PA, Eckart was enthralled by a 1925 AC "bulldog" pumper responding to an alarm or pumping full bore at a major fire. "The bark of the big unmuffled four banger was pure music to my ears" he recalls. As he grew older, his interest in fire trucks intensified and he began collecting literature and photos, which developed into a lifelong "affliction".
In 1951, Eckart joined the Defender Fire Co. in Berwick, and became a driver on a 1951 505A pumper. When the ‘51 became a reserve piece in 1978, he drove the new CF600 pumper. He has now spent nearly half a century driving and pumping Mack fire engines.
Eckart has written three other Mack fire truck books for Iconografix, Mack Model L Fire Trucks 1940-1954 Photo Archive, Mack Model B Fire Trucks 1954-1966 Photo Archive and Mack Model CF Fire Trucks 1967-1981 Photo Archive.
