OLDTIMER auf Streifenfahrt (Veteran police cars on patrol), Rupert Schoißwohl, 2003

This imported book, written entirely in German, illustrates police cars of the largest police department in Austria.

In 1945, at the conclusion of World War II Austria was occupied by the Allies. The entire fleet of police vehicles had been destroyed in the war, so the first police cars were either confiscated from the German military, or lent by the Allies.

As time went by new vehicles were obtained from different manufacturers - Jeep, Austin, Chevrolet, Harley Davidson and Sunbeam.

The famous Volkswagen "beatle" (or "bug") was used from 1950 until 1974 as the standard police car. In 1975 the Volkswagen Golf came into use.

For the new Autobahn (super highway) the much faster Mercedes-Benz and Porsche were used.

7" x 9 1/2", 90 pages, 110 B&W photos and charts, hardcover, ISBN: 3-9501775-2-3, BO0839 / $22.95
