Bickle Fire Apparatus, Ed Hass, 2005

Canadian Cousin of Ahrens - Fox

This "book on CD ROM" contains a 178 page file dealing with the Bickle Fire Apparatus company.

It contains history, specifications, and photos of various Bickle fire engines. From 1923 to 1931, the Bickle Fire Engine Company of Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, built and sold fire apparatus using chassis and even some body components purchased from the Ahrens-Fox Fire Engine Company of Cincinnati, OH. These very large fire engines included four of the famous Ahrens-Fox front-mounted piston pumpers, two service ladder trucks, and seven rotary pumpers, all on Ahrens-Fox's own chassis and powered by Ahrens-Fox six-cylinder T-head motors. By having Ahrens-Fox make the chassis in Cincinnati, but mounting their own bodies and equipment in Canada, Bickle saved the considerable import duties that the Canadian Customs service charged for importing completed vehicles into Canada.
