FIREFIGHT: STORIES FROM THE FRONTLINES, 44 Blue Productions, 1999
(VHS NTSC Version)

Firefight is a tribute to the thousands of men and women who answer the call and reveal the unsung heroes who lay their lives on the front lines to control one of nature's most terrifying fury, Wildland fires.

This video takes the viewer on a journey seldom seen in recent fire documentaries, media coverage or fictional films. It goes right up to the fire as seen by the people who are there to do one thing - extinguish the Dragon on their own ground and their own terms.

Firefight was shot in Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, and California. Among the stories are two fire disasters that rocked the firefighting community, the Mann Gulch Fire in 1949 and the Storm King Fire in Glenwood Springs, Colorado in 1994. Film maker David Wittkower, a U.S. Forest Service firefighter joins one of America's most elite firefighting crews - the Bear Divide Hotshots out of Southern California.

The video brings a unique perspective by actually filming in the heat of the battle and reveals the hard, dirty and exhausting work these men and women endure. The film goes into their world, their fears, superstitions, best and worst of times and the constant dangers.

Firefight also shows how families cope with family members who died in the line of duty, stories rarely heard in the outside world. It has been blessed by Wildfire Magazine, Wildland Firefighter Magazine, The International Photographs Guild, The National Interagency Fire Center, The U.S. Forest Service, The Department of the Interior and firefighting communities around the globe.
