It includes the information necessary to meet the job performance requirements of NFPA 1002, Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver Operator Professional Qualifications, Chapters 1, 2,4, and 5.

The operation of aerial devices requires specialized training in a variety of areas. These include vehicle operation, vehicle stabilization, aerial device deployment and utilization, maintenance and testing, and specifications of new apparatus.

The purpose of this manual is to present general principles of aerial device operation, with application of those principles wherever feasible. It is also intended to guide the driver/operator in the proper operation and care of the apparatus.
