AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER AND STANDPIPE SYSTEMS, 3rd ed., John L. Bryan, 1997

No other single engineering concept has altered fire experience in the United States so effectively as the automatic sprinkler system. Like the first and second editions, the third edition of Automatic Sprinkler and Standpipe Systems reviews the research and development that led to the development of automatic sprinkler technology.

This edition has been updated by including design concepts that have occurred since publication of the second edition in 1990.

For example, since publication of the second edition, the progressive development of the residential limited area dwelling sprinkler system and the residential network/multipurpose piping sprinkler system have significantly reduced the water supply requirements and cost of residential sprinkler systems. In addition, experimental water mist systems have been applied effectively and economically to marine, aircraft, and library situations.

Chapter 6 has been greatly expanded to detail the development of additional sprinkler models, including extra-large and very extra-large orifice sprinklers.

Finally, an all-new Chapter 13 explains the water mist system concept, including the portions of NFPA 750 that apply to this emerging and developing fire suppression technology.

CHAPTERS: Standpipe and Hose Systems; Fire Department Procedures for Automatic Sprinkler Systems; Introduction to Automatic Sprinkler Systems; Water Specifications for Automatic Sprinkler Systems; Basic Design for Automatic Sprinkler Systems; Automatic Sprinklers; Wet Pipe Automatic Sprinkler Systems; Dry Pipe Automatic Sprinkler Systems; Deluge and Preaction Automatic Sprinkler Systems; Residential Sprinkler Systems; Specialized Automatic Sprinkler Systems and Applications; Exposure Sprinkler and Water Spray Systems; Water Mist Systems; Supervision of Automatic Sprinkler Systems.
