ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

William C. Peters is a Battalion Chief and 19-year veteran of the Jersey City (NJ) Fire Department.

He was promoted to the position of apparatus supervisor in 1987 and continues to serve in that capacity today.

Chief Peters had six years of prior experience with the Fairview (NJ) Volunteer Fire Department.

He has written dozens of apparataus-related articles, gives lectures on these subjects, and serves on the editorial advisory board of Fire Engineering.

He is a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1064 and the International Association of Fire Chiefs apparatus maintenance section and served two years as a charter member on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Emergency Vehicle Technicians.

His other written works include the apparatus chapters in the "Fire Chiefs Handbook" (fifth editon), published by Fire Engineering Books, and "Final Farewell to a Fallen Firefigher: A Basic Fire Department Funeral Protocol", published by Fire Engineering.
