Since the 1880s, when a Howard County sheriff’s deputy shot the mayor of Kokomo during the commission of a burglary, Howard County law enforcement officers have played an important role in the community’s history.

About the Authors: Author Tom Kelley, a graduate of the FBI National Academy at Quantico, served in patrol and investigative functions throughout most of his career with the Kokomo Police Department.

Jon Zeck, a Howard County sheriff’s deputy and one-time candidate for the office of sheriff, has spent the past 30 years researching the histories of the public safety agencies that serve Howard County.
