About the Author: Stan Kralik was a New York City Fireman from 1963 through 1983 and a member of Ladder 132 from 1967 through 1980. He worked with all of the members mentioned in this book, but transferred out of Ladder 132 in 1980 so he did not have the pleasure of working with Rocket Ralph; Ralph came into Ladder 132 in 1982.

Stan never went back to 132’s quarters so he never met Ralph, but he kept in touch with some of the firemen who told him about Ralph. They all spoke affectionately of him and called him a real character. Stan Kralik is now retired and lives with his wife, Ellen, who illustrated this charming book.
