ABOUT THE AUTHORS: Leo E. Duliba owns one of the largest fire apparatus slide collections in the world, currently numbering 150,000 slides. Duliba has devoted much of his time to collecting and writing about fire apparatus. In addition to writing numerous articles for newspapers and periodicals, Leo has authored two books, A Transition in Red and Non-Municipal Fire Apparatus. He has lectured on many different aspects of the fire service, instructed 911 dispatchers in a program he developed, designed several fire units for various fire departments, and holds a BA degree in Fire Science Technology. Duliba is contributing editor for Fire Apparatus Journal magazine and Official Fire Photographer for Chautagua County NY. He belongs to the International Association of Firefighters, Buffalo Fire Historical Society, and SPAAMFAA.
Tom Shand has worked in the fire apparatus field since 1981 and has been in the fire service with various fire departments since 1970. He is a member of the Onondaja Hill Fire Department and consorts with various fire departments on apparatus design and specifications. Shand is presently employed at American LaFrance, as sales manager at the Hamburg Facility since September 1999. He is also contributing editor to Fire Apparatus Journal magazine, and he writes various articles on fire apparatus and military fire apparatus.
