Like an international version of the popular reality-television series Cops, Cop Stories takes a harrowing documentary look at the daily lives of policemen on the mean streets of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and St. Petersburg, Russia, two cities whose cosmopolitan charms cannot conceal the violent criminal dealings seething beneath their glittery facades.
As law enforcement officers, these men and women are confronted day after day with the "shadow zone" of society, that uncertain terrain in which rage, violence and crime explode.
The guiding principle of this documentary is to record the contact between police and these shadow zones without betraying the reality. The directors respect the truth of the moment and leave the viewer with a stron sense of these harrowing moments.
