FDNY Tales - The FDNY Assignment Card

FDNY Tales - Brooklyn Assignment Book - page 253

Shown is one page from the book.

Page 253 contained the complete 5 alarm assignments for Brooklyn stations (boxes) 1427 through 1432.

Box 1427, located at Third Ave. and 23rd Street was in the high pressure district, indicated by the "H.P." in the upper left-hand corner.

The first alarm (first line) consisted of engines 279, 239 and 228. Engines 223 and 51 were actually fireboats, thus Boat Tender 2 (column 7) also responded on the first alarm. Ladders 109 and 131, the chief of the 12th division and the 48th and 32nd battalions also responded. If both 48th and 32nd battalions were not in service, the chief of the 40th battalion would respond (column 11 - reserve chief of battalion).

Of interest in this assignment is that the entire 5th alarm (4 engines and 2 ladders) came from Manhattan, but go two boxes away, to box 1429, and the 4 engines on the 5th alarm were Brookln units.

Also of interest is that there is no rescue company assigned. In fact there is no rescue compay assigned to any box in the entire book. The only rescue company established in 1925 was Rescue 1 in Manhattan, and they were not assigned to any Brooklyn box.
