FDNY Tales - FDNY Ceremonial Unit (Jim Griffiths)

The FDNY Ceremonial Unit is an element of the Bureau of Training.

The unit is composed of about fifty fire captains, lieutenants and firefighters, and EMS captains, lieutenants, paramedics, and EMTs, who volunteer their time in addition to their primary duties.

Unit personnel coordinate and manage a variety of events including promotions, parades, memorial services, funerals, and other ceremonies in which the FDNY participates.

The unit operates a twelve-seat model 2500 2010 Freightliner with a custom Sprinter body to transport personnel, flags, a podium, and portable speaker systems.

The vehicle was funded by the Brooklyn Borough president. A trailer was donated by the Honorary Fire Officers Association.
