FDNY Tales - Man In The Tree

FDNY Tales - Man in the Tree

Lieutenant, what's that man doing up there in the tree?

That's what the chief asked Ladder 120's officer at a working fire in Brownsville in the 60's.

The man was Vic Zarnock who had just jumped off the roof of a 4 story tenement whose roof was in the process of collapsing. Fortunately for Vic there was a large tree next to the building. Of course, the Company Officer demanded to know why Vic abandoned his Partner saw on the roof.

Vic is still around but he stays off tenement roofs now. (Jack Duggan)
