The Bellflower Fire - the most serious fire in Boston since The Great Fire of 1872, the conflagration in South Boston that ocurred on May 22, 1964. Strong winds quickly spread the fire from house to house, from street to street. Extinguishment required the combined forces of 41 Boston companies and mutual aid from 22 neighboring towns.

It took Boston fire chiefs but 7 minutes to strike all 5 alarms.

When it was over it looked like a scene from World War II London after the blitz - 29 three-deckers were destroyed.
