FIREFIGHTING IN NEW YORK CITY Vol. 3 (Water Towers & Wooden Aerials 1920 - 1950), Ahrens-Fox Video Library, 1997.
The story of FDNY continues as the water towers and aerials from an earlier era are once again in full operation battling fires in tall buildings. The excitement begins with a turnout of horse drawn apparatus and the story of the 1875 tragedy surrounding the 97 foot Scott-Uda aerials. From there, it's on to 15 New York blazes.
As New York's fleet grows to 8 water towers and approximately 130 aerials, one can witness such memorable fires as the 1935 Furman Street inferno that was fought with 66 deluge guns. Mayor LaGuardia takes in many of the fires including the 1942 five alarm waste paper fire in Greenwich Village.
See the incredible collapse of the J.A. Mellish warehouse that delivered the final blow to Water Tower 3 and watch FDNY's spectacular water show at Battery Park in 1937.
