This first edition is intended to serve as a structured template for instructors tasked with the important responsibility of facilitating live fire training. Like all training evolutions in the profession, live fire training requires instructors strictly follow guidelines and mandates due to the potential of injury or death among participants. This manual has been constructed to meet current recognized guidelines and practices in the field, with a specific focus on leadership, safety and supervision. 

To ensure the highest level of safety, all live fire training evolutions must meet the requirements of the appropriate sections of the most current edition of NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Professional Qualifications. The fifteen included Skills Sheets address the relevant standards in NFPA 1041. Also included is an Appendix of fire behavior training exercises which meet the appropriate section of the most current edition of NFPA 1403, Standard on Live Fire Training Evolutions.
