Seattle Fire Apparatus: A History Book

$34.95

By BILL HATTERSLEY & GALEN THOMAIER

This book is an FSP Books exclusive!

This book is a culmination of thirty years of research by Bill Hattersley. It is built on a foundation of prior research by Jim Stevenson and Rich Schneider, both deceased. It would not have been possible without the great amount and quality of material and assistance supplied by co-author, Galen K. Thomaier, SFD Retired and SFD Historian.

The book is 9" X 11" with a spiral binding. It contains 134 pages and over 200 black and white photos and information on all major apparatus ever operated by the Seattle Fire Department. Included are listings of motorized apparatus by apparatus number and almost all have the factory serial numbers shown as well. The covers are printed in color and have heavy protective clear-plastic outer covers. Included is a roster for Horse drawn rigs. Also shown are equipment rosters for 1926, 1942, 1951, 1965, 1982, 1995, 2011, and a current roster for 2021.
Areas of emphasis include modifications and modernization performed by the SFD Shop during the great depression as well as safety improvements added during the 1980's. Other than a couple of rigs with no available photos, all other rig types used by the SFD over the years are shown. A special emphasis is given to the Kenworth rigs operated by the SFD starting in 1942 and continuing through the last two purchased in 1976.
