The standard offers vital information on everything from fire and carbon monoxide detection to means of egress and types of fire extinguishers. NFPA 1192 also covers the proper installation of plumbing, fuel-burning, electrical, and other safety-related systems.

The 2026 edition has been completely reorganized for a more readable standard and features several updates. Most notably:

• Requirements regarding galvanized steel or iron pipe have been removed.
• All tanks have been clarified to be ASME tanks.
• Natural gas requirements have been removed.
• Secondary means of escape requirements have been updated.
• Carbon monoxide requirements have been added.
