NFPA^® 440, Guide for Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Operations and Airport/Community Emergency Planning, 2024 edition, presents the latest criteria for emergency operations during and after an emergency has occurred. As part of the NFPA Emergency Response and Responder Safety Document Consolidation Plan, this first edition NFPA 440 combines requirements from NFPA 402, Guide for Aircraft Rescue and Fire-Fighting Operations, and NFPA 424, Guide for Airport/Community Emergency Planning.

Notable changes to consolidated requirements in the first time 2024 edition include:

• Several revised definitions for clarification and to reflect current use and practices
• Addition of guidance on the presence and use of alternative fuel vehicles and how they are more commonly used at airports, as well as considerations regarding suppression as it relates to lithium-ion battery fires
• New necessary considerations for aircraft to reflect that most aircraft now are constructed of composite materials rather than aluminum
• Revision replacing the term halogenated agents with clean agents to reflect current use and practice
