A Message From Ira

After 33 years I’ve decided to retire.

This is not an easy decision. I can truthfully say that, with few exceptions, every day has been an enjoyable one. I have been blessed with a staff that knows our products, excels at customer service, and these days are there when I’m not.

It hasn’t always been that way. For many years FSP Books and Videos, or Fire Service Publications as we were called when I started the business, was a 1-person company. If I didn’t get there to unlock the door at 9am, then no one would be there to answer the phone, open envelopes and remove the order form and check, then manually enter the order into the computer. And, oh yes, take care of a walk-in customer.

I don’t get to talk to my dear friend, Jack Lerch, anymore. He was my go-to person any time a customer called with a question about FDNY that could not be answered in the FDNY Operational Reference manual or some other book.

I’m not going to sever my relationship with fire service. I intend to remain an active member of the Massachusetts Fire Sprinkler Coalition, the N.Y. Fireman’s Cycle Club and the Fire Bell Club of New York, and plan to continue my role as a fire department photographer. I have 3 or 4 book projects in mind, just need to write that difficult first page.

I may take up fishing, or take the easy way out and go to Gilberts Chowder House in Portland for some wicked good chowda.

To my wonderful customers for all these years - thank you.
