The Butte Fire originated in Amador County on September 9th, 2015 during a period of 100 degree weather with single digit humidities.

It quickly crossed the Mokelumne River into Calaveras County where it ravaged 71,000 acres, destroyed 818 structures, claimed two lives and threatened several communities during the first three days of the fire.

Fire resources responded from throughout California and Nevada. The cause is under investigation.
