FDNY: The Battle Continues, Brooklyn 10th Alarm (DVD)

At 0534 hrs Tuesday May 2nd, 2006 Brooklyn Box 0036 was transmitted. Reported to be a warehouse at West & Quay Streets, units enroute were advised that calls were being received indicating that there was fire in the warehouse. Within minutes the 10-75 working fire signal was transmitted, units also reporting fire thru the roof.

The fire was originally located at the western end of the Brooklyn Terminal Market. A mix of 3 - 4 and 5 story brick heavy timber construction buildings. These buildings have been abandoned for over 15 years. A number of windows were boarded over, or just missing. The multi building complex housed a number of business in it's day. Additionally, a number of walkway & conveyor bridges connected these buildings with several other buildings, some were not affected by the fire.

The fire quickly consumed the sprawling, 3 acres of multi warehouses on the site of the old Greenpoint Terminal Market. The fire also spread to another complex of brick and heavy timber construction warehouses complex on Oak Street, which was also abandoned.

In total 10 alarms were transmitted. Before bringing this fire under control. during the height of the operations, over 80 pieces of apparatus, and 400 firefighters were utilized.

The video begins with the fire in it's earlier stages. Fire can be seen at the end of the Noble Street side where a fire boat is operating. As the fire begins to spread, additional tower ladders are placed into operation.
