NFPA 1300: Standard on Community Risk Assessment and Community Risk Reduction Plan Development (2026)

$165.00

Your quintessential resource for developing a process for identifying, prioritizing, and minimizing risks in your community.

NFPA 1300, Standard on Community Risk Assessment and Community Risk Reduction Plan Development, was created to help users navigate the entire community risk reduction (CRR) process. This leading industry standard outlines the steps required to conduct a community risk assessment (CRA) and a standardized process for developing, implementing, and evaluating a CRR plan.

NFPA 1300 also includes a framework for assembling a CRR team, cultivating strategic partnerships, and leveraging data to conduct program activities and ongoing evaluations. This standard from NFPA is essential for members of your community, including first responders, residents, businesses, community leaders, and any other party who plays a role in hazard prevention or community safety.

The 2026 edition of NFPA 1300 features two major annex changes:

  • NFPA 1452, Guide for Training Fire Service Personnel to Conduct Community Risk Reduction for Residential Occupancies, was incorporated into NFPA 1300 as Annex B.
    • The guide was revised for simplicity and to address emerging risks impacting residences, such as battery use and storage, as well as wildland fire preparation and mitigation tactics.
    • A new checklist for home safety surveys was devised in alignment with these changes.
  • The sample CRR plan in Annex C was updated with an example from Pflugerville Fire Department / Travis County ESD No. 2. This current and more relevant plan will help users better envision and implement the CRR process in their local jurisdictions.
