Help Reduce Risks to Technical Rescue and Wildland Fire Responders by Ensuring Safer and More Effective Protective Ensembles.
NFPA 1857, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Protective Ensembles for Technical Rescue Incidents and Wildland Firefighting, provides the requirements for minimizing potential safety and health risks due to poorly maintained, contaminated, or damaged protective clothing and equipment. The document features comprehensive criteria for protective ensembles for technical rescue incidents and protective clothing and equipment for wildland and urban interface firefighting.
This standard was created to consolidate two standards: NFPA 1855, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Protective Ensembles for Technical Rescue Incidents, and NFPA 1877, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Wildland Firefighting Protective Clothing and Equipment. In addition to establishing administrative guidance and outlining mandatory references and definitions, NFPA 1857 covers the minimum selection, care, and maintenance requirements for these protective features.
