The 2017 edition of NFPA 414: Standard for Aircraft Rescue and Fire-Fighting Vehicles specifies the most up-to-date design, performance, and acceptance criteria for aircraft rescue and fire-fighting (ARFF) vehicles intended to carry personnel and equipment to the scene of an aircraft emergency to rescue occupants and conduct rescue and fire fighting operations.
Over time, the Standard has been revised to reflect airline industry changes -- including the development and use of larger aircraft manufactured of new composite materials. Also, many ARFF vehicles are now operated by one individual, with devices and warnings/alarms designed for the single user/operator in mind. Compliance with the latest NFPA 414 helps airport managers, response personnel, purchasers, and AHJs ensure that vehicles are safe and able to meet prescribed response time standards.
Important changes in the 2017 edition:
The Standard is consistent with other source documents as well as commonly accepted practices as they relate to the ARFF industry.
