The fire dispatcher told the first responding engine company that he had a report that "fireworks started some brush on fire". Before it was over more than 400 firefighters from Los Angeles City, Los Angeles County and Burbank, aided by 6 helicopters, fought one of the biggest fires in Los Angeles history.

This video shows the fire from the very beginning - before hose lines had been stretched. Listen to the initial fire radio traffic up to the point that a major fire was apparent. Watch how the fire, fueled by huge wooden structures and fanned by 50 mile per hour winds, created firestorm-like conditions that burned with tremendous intensity.
