Pilot Fire 2016
The Pilot Fire started at noon August 7th, 2016 off of Highway 138 near Pilot Rock Ridge and quickly escalated into a large fire due to extremely dry fuel, high temps, low RH, and moderate winds. The fire demonstrated extreme fire behavior with rapid rates of spread all along Highway 173 several miles to the north of the start location.
No residential structures were lost due to text book examples of structure protection. San Bernardino National Forest, CAL FIRE, and San Bernardino County Fire were in unified command also utilizing numerous strike teams from South Zone.
