Apparatus and Fires Across America

Apparatus and Fires Across America

$14.95

Peter Aloisi

Published in 1994, from the author of Fire Apparatus Fighting Fires, this book was a "must-have" for serious fire truck fans. The major section of this book shows former FDNY rigs that have been given new lives.  Shown are 79 tower ladders, rearmounts, engines, a rescue and a tiller, all former FDNY and now scattered around the country: Connecticut, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia.

There are some "before and after" pairs of photos: what it looked like as an FDNY unit, then what it looks with its new identity.  The "Apparatus Across America" section shows some interesting rigs including the Milwaukee amphibious fire boat and a local truck (Worcester's Engine 11).  Other sections include: "Command Posts", "Heavy Rescues", "Haz-Mats", "On the Runway", "Banned in Boston" (the last Mack, the last Hahn, etc.), "Steamers", "Wrecks", and "Massachusetts Fires".
